In addition to the traditional development projects with which we are regularly involved, i.e. arenas, stadiums, convention and conference centers and theaters, SMG often works with our clients and with development partners to enhance the entertainment experience of patrons by activating and energizing the exterior spaces adjacent to the facilities we manage.
The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans Arena and Champions Square combine to form a vibrant 55 acre entertainment campus in the heart of downtown New Orleans. The Louisiana Superdome is the home of the World Champion New Orleans Saints has been the site of 6 NFL Super Bowls, 4 Men’s Final Four Championships, the annual Allstate Sugar Bowl, Essence Music Festival and countless other major events. The New Orleans Arena serves as the home of the New Orleans Hornets NBA team, as well as the major live entertainment venue in the market hosting major touring acts throughout the year.
The latest addition to the event landscape on the facility campus is Champions Square – a 60,000 square foot special event and entertainment space, an urban redevelopment project located next to the Superdome. SMG and the New Orleans Saints joined together to re-vitalize the 1.1 million square foot space, which also includes a 440,000 square foot high-rise commercial office tower. SMG successfully managed the Louisiana Stadium Exposition District’s (LSED) $15 million re-development of the old New Orleans Centre shopping mall and conversion of the space to Champions Square, and now serves as Operator of the development.
