Alabama – Director of Sales – SMG/Mobile Convention, Civic Center and Saenger Theatre – Mobile, AL

Overview

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Director of Sales and Marketing at the Mobile Convention, Civic Center and Saenger Theatre. Under general supervision of the General Manager, the Director of Sales and Marketing, is responsible for oversight of a team of sales managers focused on maximizing the revenue and occupancy of the Mobile Convention and Marketing for the Mobile Civic Center and Saenger Theatre. In addition, a focused effort on coaching sales managers for best success, interviewing, and hiring of new sales associates, maximizing bookings for local sales, national, regional, state conventions/tradeshows and other events for the Mobile market.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales programs for facilities with emphasis on short-term bookings (18 months or in), industry image, development and local community relations
  • Develop and implement internal programs fostering high level customer service for tenants, exhibitors and patrons
  • Maintain the Master Booking Schedule
  • Compile yearly forecast of short term booking activity and establishes sales goals to enhance the facilities’ position in the community and increase the profitability of events
  • Negotiate and quote rental rates with prospective tenants within guidelines established with General Manager and in the best interest of all facilities
  • Issue license agreement and/or other documents relating to space reservations
  • Assign and supervise sales activities such as direct sales calls, telemarketing, direct mail campaigns and FAM Tours
  • Represents facility at appropriate trade shows, meetings, conference calls, community outreach and appropriate related industries
  • Supervise sales/marketing staff
  • Develop and implement effective advertising and public relation programs in conjunction with MCVC activity, including bid preparation and presentation, sales blitzes and trade show participation
  • Extend sales support to MCVC long-term booking efforts and establish effective working relationship with MCVC; create public relations campaign in conjunction with MCVC for trade, national and local publicity coverage
  • Consult with in-house food concessionaire on catering sales programs, food function bookings, collateral materials, etc.
  • Develop advertising concepts and placement schedules as well as negotiates rates, editorial support, etc. for trade and consumer publications and other appropriate media
  • Direct social media campaigns, concert marketing and assist in developing community outreach programs
  • Maintain effective communication between marketing department and facility services/operations department
  • Aggressively searches for and develops new business while maintaining client retention
  • Prepares marketing materials including copy, design, printing and inventory
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field and a minimum of 5 years in the field of convention, hotel, trade show or meeting room sales; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three year’s supervisory experience
  • Previous experience with contract development and/or negotiation preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated presentation skills, both verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must be goal oriented and possess strong initiative and negotiation skills with the ability to recognize competitive opportunities that result in new business.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computer systems and related software applications.
  • Good organizational and strong management skills are essential.
  • Must have familiarity with the use of a sales database and the ability to produce reports as requested.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize responsibilities in an ever-changing work environment are critical as this job may require travel, working weekends and evenings
