California – Environmental Health & Safety Manager – SMG-Moscone Center – San Francisco, CA

Overview

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for an Environmental Health & Safety Manager for SMG-Moscone Center. Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and administering all of the environmental, health and safety programs at the Moscone Center. The primary responsibility of the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager is to maintain venue compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. An understanding of permit requirements, the regulatory process, venue operations, and the ability to identify, define, investigate, and assess EH&S problems are crucial to the role. Expertise in training, auditing, industrial hygiene, workers compensation, as well as hazard identification and correction is required.

Responsibilities

  • This individual will have accountability for identifying and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local applicable requirements
  • Administering and maintaining existing EH&S programs, policies, and procedures as well as developing specific programs as needed
  • Daily use of the Moscone’s computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Occupations Safety and Health (OSH) maintenance web-based system; Altum
  • Contractor Safety Management compliance to all Corporate Best Practices and venue policies interfacing with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • OSHA compliance and reporting requirements
  • Coordinating industrial hygiene related testing and programs
  • Organizing EH&S related documentation
  • Conducting and establishing venue inspections and audits to assess compliance with Corporate Best Practices, venue policies and regulations that include; hazard analysis, safe work procedures, etc.
  • Lead incident investigations both internally and with the client as required by attending any applicable investigations and subsequent meetings, ensuring venues’ EH&S policies are met. Facilitate timely completion of accident/injury reporting.
  • Monitor regulatory process to identify future applicable regulations and their impact on operations
  • Support management in the development and implementation of effective safety policies to address employee and client injury trends. Assist with identifying non conformances and deficiencies
  • Supervises maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are accessible at all times according regulatory requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities    

This position has minimal direct supervisory responsibilities other than assisting other departmental supervisor and managers in the oversight of safety compliance.  Responsibilities include facilitating a safety committee to train, investigate and address accident and injury reports.

Education and/or Experience        

  • Degree in occupational health & safety, environmental, engineering, or similar field
  • Certifications a plus (i.e. OHST, CHST, ASP, CSP, CHSO)
  • Have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical Environmental Health & Safety experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ASHRAE, EPA, NEC, etc.
  • Experience managing multiple regulatory compliance programs such as; Toxic and Hazardous Substances (e.g. Asbestos, Lead, etc.,) Lock-Out / Tag-Out, Confined Space, Respiratory, Hearing Conservation, etc.
  • Experience working with represented (Union) employees, trades, contractors
  • Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other related materials.

Computer Skills  

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient In Word and Excel and other Office Programs

Hours of Work and Travel Requirements

  • Travel may include visit to other venues. Must be willing to travel overnight by various means for short or long periods of time
  • Requires ability to work extended and flexible hours including nights, weekend, and holidays in addition to normal business hours
