California- General Manager – SMG/University of California San Diego, Faculty Club – San Diego, CA

The General Manager has overall strategic and operational accountability for the performance (i.e., profitability, client and guest satisfaction) of food and beverage operations at SMG-Premier’s food and beverage operations at University of California San Diego, Faculty Club.

This role is responsible for providing strategic direction, as well as day-to-day decision/operations leadership to the on-site Food and Beverage Team.  This position is responsible for driving and overseeing profitable strategies for the disciplines of Catering, Concession, Culinary, Restaurants, Bars, and Special Event Management.  This position requires close collaboration and influence of UCSD Leadership Board of Directors, Faculty Staff, and Food and Beverage Management to ensure strategic alignment.

The Food and Beverage Leader will drive strategies to support synergies between discipline areas, and support continual investment in resources to ensure food and beverage talent is in place to provide quality support on assigned projects while delivering the highest standards of food and beverage.

Education and/or Experience

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited University Related years of experience in the F&B industry
  • 10+ years’ experience in Club or Country Club Food and Beverage Management
  • Membership development to include sales and club management of services
  • Presentation skills to Executive Management of the Board
  • Track record of creating profitable, operational, and cutting edge Food & Beverage solutions
  • Exceptional leadership skills – a proven track record of initiating and championing new concepts through activation
  • Strong understanding and application of managerial concepts and techniques in areas such as idea creation, employee development, coaching, cross-team effectiveness, and project/resource management
  • Strong ability to manage multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
  • Leadership skills that manage a balance between creative innovation and operational feasibility
  • Knowledge of cutting edge design solutions with an ability to pull inspiration from a variety of input streams
  • Strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; able to collaborate effectively with others in a cross-functional team
  • Experience introducing and implementing cutting edge ideas; conception through final delivery
  • Ability to articulate new concepts clearly and in a compelling way
  • Deliver an exceptional

  • Ability to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the entertainment industry
  • Considerable knowledge of event solicitation and presentation, public relations, advertising and media relations and event planning
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state or local laws and regulations
  • Strong orientation towards hospitality/customer service for the meeting, convention and entertainment industry
  • Basic knowledge of facility operating standards, building maintenance, custodial, personnel and office management
  • Effective supervisory skills. Ability to deal effectively with human resource and personnel problems; to deal constructively with conflict; to motivate, provide counsel and execute applicable solutions
  • Ability to manage a facility of same size and type

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient In Word and Excel.
