The SMG-managed Chesapeake Energy Arena finished 33rd among United States in ticket sales in 2013 according to Pollstar’s year-end listing of the Top 200 arena venues. The Oklahoma City venue finished 69th worldwide in ticket sales.
It was an exciting year for the venue, as it welcomed seven of Pollstar’s Top 20 worldwide tours of the year based on tickets sold. This included the best-selling tour of 2013 when Bon Jovi came to Chesapeake Energy Arena on March 16.
In addition to Bon Jovi, the arena hosted some of the year’s top-drawing acts, including Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, John Mayer, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, New Kids on the Block, Jay Z and Pearl Jam.
On Jan. 19, 2013, Chesapeake Energy Arena was the second stop on George Strait’s The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.
“It was a busy year for the arena and our staff,” General Manager Gary Desjardins said. “We are looking forward to another great year in 2014.”
Chesapeake Energy Arena is already scheduled to host two of last year’s top acts in 2014. Luke Bryan comes to Oklahoma City on Jan. 31 and Jason Aldean will play the venue on March 1.
In addition to these top touring acts, two NCAA national champions will be crowed in Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2014. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will be held in Oklahoma City March 20-22 and the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship will be held Dec. 18-20.
