Worcester, Massachusetts (June 25, 2015) – The SMG-managed DCU Center is proud to announce that General Manager Sandra L. Dunn has been appointed to the Massachusetts Cultural Council Advisory Board. Dunn will serve a three-year term at the appointment of Governor Charlie Baker.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) is a state agency supporting the arts, humanities, and sciences to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts and its communities. The MCC pursues this mission through grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists.
Since 1997, Dunn has held the position of General Manager for the city-owned Arena and Convention Center in Worcester, MA. Dunn oversaw the construction and grand opening of the Convention Center in 1997 as well as the $31.5M expansion and renovation project of the 14,000-seat Arena in October 2013. She has been an instrumental contributor to Central Massachusetts and the Greater Worcester region for more than 15 years, having served on several volunteer boards and participated in many community outreach programs. Currently, Dunn serves on the Worcester Municipal Research Bureau Board of Directors (Former Chair), Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Destination Worcester Executive Committee and Economic Development Coordinating Council Committee.
Dunn will serve a three-year term, May 2015 through May 2018. With the notice of her appointment, the Massachusetts Cultural Council and MassDevelopment also announced the approval of for state capital funding in the amount of $110,000 for the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra to make historic Tuckerman Hall in Worcester more accessible for artists and patrons.
