Providence, RI (September 6 2017) – The SMG managed Dunkin’ Donuts Center and Rhode Island Convention Center will welcome Retired Officer Lincoln Sisson and Kyra to join the staff in security on September 11, 2017.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to enlist the expertise of Lincoln Sisson and “Kyra”, said Lawrence Lepore, SMG General Manager. “We are committed to providing all of our clients, patrons and employees with top level security while they are at our venues.”
Officer Lincoln (Linc) Sisson has been a Police Officer for the City of Providence RI since 1995. He worked in the patrol division and successfully passed the rigorous testing program to become a member of the Providence Police Special Response Unit (SWAT) in 1999. Linc was then transferred to the department’s Weapons Bureau where he became a training instructor for the departments in service training and for the PPD Police Academy. In 2002 he attended the FBI Hazardous Devices School in Huntsville, Alabama to become a Bomb Technician for the City of Providence and was assigned to the RI State Bomb Squad as part of a mutual aid agreement with the State of Rhode Island.
In 2002 he began to train with the department in service Explosive Detection K-9 with a dog named “TEX” to become a K-9 handler for the City. “TEX” was nearing retirement at that time and the city purchased a new Explosives Detection K-9 to take his place. Officer Sisson attended the eight week K-9 National Narcotics and Bomb Detection K-9 Academy held at the Kennedy Space Center, at which time he successfully graduated from the program and became a full time certified Bomb Detection K-9 Handler for the city of Providence.
Officer Sisson is currently partnered with a new Explosive Detection K-9. Her name is “KYRA”. She is a six year old female Belgian Malinois. “KYRA” loves to work and has developed and amazing bond with Officer Sisson, which is very important in the K-9 Handler world. She lives and works with Officer Sisson every day. They have traveled extensively to provide services to many high profile events that require a significant level of K-9 support. They have provided security for many visiting dignitaries including Presidents, heads of state, foreign dignitaries, political figures, the Boston Marathon, etc.
Officer Sisson and K-9 “KYRA” continue to train every day, attend seminars to stay current with their required yearly certifications, and continue to develop their expertise in providing the highest level of security and public safety for the City of Providence, the State of Rhode Island and the country.
“This is the forward kind of thinking that SMG completely embraces at its facilities and is thankful to be associated with a City like Providence that has the vision to introduce and support such a program,” said Wes Westley, President and CEO SMG.
