ALBANY, NY – Albany County officials have announced that the SMG Managed Times Union Center ended 2016 with aNet Operating Profit of $915,634. This marks the 24th year (out of 26) that the Times Union Center has ended the year with a Net Operating Profit. In 2016, 136 events were held at the Times Union Center and exceeded 480,000 in attendance.
The Times Union Center hosted great concerts in 2016 including Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Bruce Springsteen. 2016 was a big year for comedy in Albany with Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Jeff Dunham, Jeff Foxworthy & Larry the Cable Guy, and the Comedy Get Down tour all stopping at Times Union Center. We also had a tremendous variety of sports at the TUC this year with the MAAC Basketball Championships, NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships, NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey East Regionals, The Mayors Cup, the Federation Tournament of Champions and new comers the CrossFit Regionals.
“Times Union Center continues to be a vital part of the downtown Albany revitalization process. The success of local restaurants, bars and other businesses hinge heavily on the ability of the arena to book events that Capital Region residents can look forward to attending. In the coming months. Times Union Center fans can look forward to a variety of events including Garth Brooks, Maroon 5, MAAC Basketball Championships, Toby Mac and WWE.,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “In addition to exciting events, the renovation project continues at Times Union Center with the atrium enclosure. The project also consists of enclosing the landing at the entrance to the arena nearest the parking garage, as well as concourse and concession stand upgrades. SMG General Manager Bob Belber and his staff continue to do great work not only for the Times Union Center but for the fans of the Capital Region.”

2017 will kick off with 21 Pilots, Maroon 5 and Garth Brooks. These shows alone will bring in nearly 63,000 fans.
