The SMG Theater Network is comprised of theaters and performing arts centers from Worcester, MA to Long Beach, CA with capacities ranging from 200 to 5,000 seats. The average venue has a capacity of approximately 2,300 seats and presents a variety of programming from touring Broadway shows, concerts, comedy, orchestras, opera, ballet and dance to community events such as graduations, dance recitals and festivals.
Established in 2003, the SMG Theater Network was created to take full advantage of SMG’s leverage and leadership position within the entertainment industry. Initially envisioned as a monthly conference call among the venues to discuss event routing and booking opportunities, the calls soon branched off into uncharted territory, providing an ongoing forum for our venue operators to discuss theater-specific issues with their peers and industry leaders.
The Theater Network has the following goals:
- Provide current information regarding booking and routing information to Network participants.
- Utilize our vast internal resources and experience to provide support and assistance to SMG venues/personnel as needed.
- Serve as a resource and database for all SMG-managed theaters.
- As much as possible, standardize the type of information available to potential users.
- Establish minimum standards of service for our venues, creating an expectation of service with our users.
- Strive to improve relationships with existing presenters while seeking to develop new presenters with the ability and resources to present in multiple markets.
- Enhance the overall patron experience in our facilities.
Benefits to members on the Network include the following:
Establishment of an online database of agents, promoters and managers that SMG theater managers can access to distribute venue availability sheets, press releases and other important information.
Use of SMGBooking.com, SMG’s private online Event Booking System. SMGBooking.com allows our operators in the field, as well as our regional and corporate managers, real-time access to a venue’s booking calendar. It affords agents and promoters the ability to book dates in SMG-managed venues with a keystroke. Additionally, SMGBooking.com is a valuable online resource, containing up-to-date sales reports for all events currently on-sale in SMG venues, routing information for artists and attractions currently touring and other important event and venue related information.
Templates for the creation of Event Guides, Booking Policies, Venue Sponsorship Proposals, Artist Offers and Event Estimates along with examples of existing venue marketing plans, patron fulfillment programs (restaurant partnerships and in-house concierges) and detailed guidelines for the creation of grand opening and annual venue open-house events.
Real-time access to the other members of the SMG Theater Network. In some ways this is the most valuable benefit of being part of the Network, because your theater benefits from the collective experience, industry contacts and management savvy of the other SMG industry professionals, both in the field and at SMG Corporate Headquarters.
Creation of exclusive SMG Theater Network deal with artists, agencies and promoters, granting preferred booking status, “most-favored nation” financial terms and other incentives for our venues.
Speed and efficiencies in booking and routing:
Another hallmark of the SMG Theater Network is its ability to quickly and efficiently route and book shows for agents and promoters, virtually in real time. Numerous industry professionals have sought our assistance in securing dates for their artists, resulting in literally hundreds of theater bookings for our venues.
